4Foto Flip Friday – October Theme: “Blue” (Week 1)
Welcome to a brand new edition of Foto Flip Friday – a selected showcase of photos dredged up from my bountiful photo archives and whittled into a pretty little “flip/flop” postcard each Friday. And to add to the fun, each month I’ll challenge myself to unearth a series of images that meet a monthly theme.
Continuing with the original theme of predominant color (i.e. “Yellow” for August), for October I chose my all-time favorite color (the one that coincidentally matches my eyes).
This month’s theme is (no not brown, nor green, nor hazel, but rather: BLUE
For starters, we have one of my favorite images from my many years of romping through the beaches, jungles and cloud forests of Costa Rica – in the rich jewel tones (no photoshop saturation tweak here) that can only come from that good ol’ Fuji Velvia f.i.l.m. (do mouseover to see a short message on the back of each postcard).
(simply mouseover the image and watch the *magic!)
* Well o.k. for those viewing in IE, not so much a magical “flip” as a fading change. If you want to see the flip/flop, try viewing in Chrome or Firefox.
And here we have a far more recent scene – a regal indigenous lass from right here in Cuenca (note the “Panama” hat – a misnomer as these hats originated here in Ecuador):
And finally, this week we have a little foto flip catch-up to do – an entry for last month’s “Children of the World” theme, submitted by one of TL’s most loyal readers (I missed seeing it in my “needs approval” WordPress comments – lo siento, Anita!) Heck, there’s even a generous dash of “blue” in one of the lass’ skirt!:

All this month I’ll be rummaging through my archives for more “Blue” images, so check back next Friday to see another flip/flop postcard or two from my past.
And meanwhile – if you’d like to submit a “Blue” photo of your own (in landscape format, min. 700 px. wide), just upload it to an online source (e.g. your blog, Facebook, Flickr, etc – make sure the privacy settings are set to “public”), and post a link to it in the comments below.
Who knows? I might just whittle it into a flip/flop digital postcard here!
Does 16×9 work for the Foto Flip?
Last wet day before the rains stopped. I didn’t complain.
Zadar, Croatia.
No problem with the size FLN – as long as it’s near 700 px wide (and the composition is in landscape mode), I can usually tweak pics to fit the postcard size.
Strangely your photo link doesn’t show up here in the published comment, but no worries – it does in “waiting for approval” in my WP comments interface. So I was able to d/l the image.
It may take me a week or two to whittle it into a flip postcard as… I just wiped my HD (and am having a new one installed) and will need to re-install my favorite graphic software.
Thanks for the “Blue” submission – very nice. Will no doubt look great as a postcard!
Flipping through your photos and the last one caught me by surprise. How serendipitous that this photo worked out for October’s theme as well! Loved the rich blues of your pics of the Costa Rican Macaws – gorgeous!
Yes Anita – I too was surprised, and only noticed how well the blue skirt fit into BOTH September’s “Children of the World” theme, as well as October’s “Blue” as I was adding it to this Week 1 post! Very nicely done.
Now, if there’s something you have that’s even more predominately “Blue” – do drop a link in the comments.
