3The French Would Be Envious
Seriously, these folks most definitely know how to concoct a baguette. The Vietnamese, I mean. No doubt they learned it from the French but I must say… I lived in France back in another life, and as I recall, those French baguettes in no way can compare. Here in Vietnam, the “bread” is a mini baguette loaf, about 8″ of pure HEAVEN. The thinnest of crusts and the center – an airy wonder of mouth-melting flakiness. Add a dollop of butter (from New Zealand) and you’ve verily entered Nirvana.
That, for starters – was my breakfast (gratis here at my hotel in Saigon: Saigon Mini Hotel 1 (there’s apparently 5 of them in the District 1 vicinity): a choice of menus and I opted against the ubiquitous Pho (not that I don’t love it, but suffice I needed a change) in favor of an omelet which, curiously came with FRENCH FRIES (go figure), bacon, strangely cut tomato slices (what? a “NOT” symbol?), fruit, and a most imaginatively sculpted “tulip” chunk of hot dog. Only in Asia… 😉
Much more to come soon, as today I move into my new “permanent” (leastwise for the next month) home here in HCMC.
Enjoy it there! Good it was so easy for you 😉
Yes indeed, never a dull moment here. Every blessed thing, so strange and new. Today I tackle Ben Thanh Market for a few essentials before my month-long (12-14 hr. days intensive!) CELTA course begins.
Terrific account and pics. Glad it’s working out so well and so much fun and excitement.
