Sometimes... a girl just needs a taste of her native land.
Finely chop the cabbage and onion, and grate the carrot into a large bowl. Add the salt and pepper, and toss together.
In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice and vinegar. Pour mix over cabbage and toss well.
Tip: You can make your own buttermilk simply by adding 1/4 tbsp of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1/4 cup of milk. Stir, then let stand for 5 minutes.
Allow the slaw to sit awhile to blend flavors. Add a bit more sugar and/or lemon juice to taste.
